Tuesday, December 20, was a night of holiday magic! The house was filled with our residents - pregnant moms, new moms with babies - staff and volunteers who came together to celebrate Christmas.
The evening began with dinner in the kitchen, which extended to the hallways to accomodate everyone. We enjoyed homemade mexican food and wonderful desserts, prepared by a longtime volunteer, and a visit from Santa before heading upstairs for gifts. Moms each had a chair with bags and boxes all around them, leaving little room for anything else. We began with a song from a resident and volunteer. They had spent the last couple of weeks working on it when the volunteer was here helping out. The duet was beautiful and set the tone for the rest of the evening. When the time came for them to open gifts, the room exploded with tissue, ribbon and paper, all shed to expose the individualized gifts, hand-picked and selected for each mom and her baby. Cheer filled the room with each opened item, revealing something new that had been hoped for, wished for or just really needed. Many paused during the exictment to really take it all in. All were grateful and in awe. "Thank you so much, I don't even know what to say. So overwhelmed with feeling so loved and cared for." "I'm a very sentimental personal and find sentiments as I go along through our blessings that were given with love...wow!! Thank you Lord! And thank you all! I stand shocked in amazement..." "It's things and times like this that reinforce that drive inside that tells me to continue to give myself and this baby boy the life we deserve, free from all the garbage and negaitivity!!" We say a special thank you to each person, family, church and community group who came together to collect gifts for our moms, spent time decorating or donating items for the house, and prepared the food and served during the evening. You each blessed our mom and touched their hearts and ours in a special way. Thank you for your generosity and desire to make their time special. You succeeded!

In my experience, Casa Teresa has been a real lifesaver for giving me a place I could truly call home. Most of all they have helped me to grow in many ways. I remember when I first got here I was lost and desperate for help, tired of depending on others and ready for a change. Thanks to Casa Teresa I'm able to do just that. I've stopped depending on others and changed my life for the better by being here. Here I've been able to save money for a car and towards a place for when I move out. I"m also working on advancing my education by going to school for my High School Equivalency in addition to studying for my drivers license. By completing these things while I'm here I will be able to take care of myself and my children on my own and not feel like I have to depend on others to take care of me. I now feel more independent and like I'm finally becoming the woman I was meant to be. I can say I love the woman I'm becoming thanks to Casa Teresa. |
